Nature Information March 2026 : The very first sunny days
19/03/2026
Nature Information, IDEEV’s monthly nature news, written by Maxime Hache, naturalist and scientific mediator at Ecologie, Société, Evolution .
With rising temperatures and the return of the sun, it’s time to observe the first flowers and insects of spring. Some will not remain visible for a long time, so you should take a look while they are still observable around IDEEV.
Meadow pipit (Anthus pratensis) The meadow pipit is a fearful bird that can be recognized by its long nail at the back of the leg and its large tail that it moves regularly. It is smaller than the water pipit which is also present.
Small bloody-nosed beetle (Timarcha gottingensis)
We find the small and the large bloody-nosed beetle around the IDEEV, the latter has a heart shaped pronotum. They feed on bedstraw and often walk in the aisles, so be careful not to crush them.
Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara)
Coltsfoot is one of the first plants to bloom, even before having leaves that will grow in a second phase when the plant is seedling. It is a pioneering plant which constitutes the first source of pollen for pollinators at the end of winter. Even if it doesn’t produce much nectar, it remains an important resource for their early brood.
Hairy-footed flower bee (Anthophora plumipes)
The Hairy-footed flower bee is recognizable by its legs which have large feathers in males. Its rapid and sometimes stationary flight from flower to flower also allows it to be identified. This very early-blooming bee loves plants of the lamiaceae family (like many other bees) because their flowers arranged in circles are easy to forage.

Note: nature photographs may be more or less clear due to the fact that some shy birds move around a lot, depending on the weather, lack of light… Photos were taken nearby IDEEV
