Nos recherches visent à comprendre l’impact des changements globaux (anthropiques et climatiques) sur la diversité, l’abondance et l’écologie des insectes dans le contexte de la sécurité alimentaire et de la santé publique. Nous travaillons sur des modèles d’insectes ayant des impacts positifs sur le bien-être humain, tels que les insectes pollinisateurs, les insectes comestibles et les ennemis naturels des insectes nuisibles, et également des impacts négatifs tels que les ravageurs des cultures et les vecteurs de parasites des mammifères. Les objectifs sont d’identifier les mécanismes qui sous-tendent les réponses de ces insectes aux pressions biotiques et abiotiques, et de prédire les impacts et retroactions sur les changements globaux dans une perspective de gestion et de conservation. Les principaux sites d’étude sont situés en Europe continentale, en Afrique sub-Saharienne et en Amérique latine.

Axes de recherche
Quatre grands axes de recherche sont développés au sein de notre pôle :
- Ecologie d’insectes à enjeux de production ou de conservation : les changements d’usage des terres et les bouleversements climatiques peuvent affecter l’abondance, la richesse et la diversité des populations d’insectes à enjeux de production ou de conservation. Dans ce contexte, nous étudions l’écologie d’insectes comestibles, l’écologie des abeilles à travers des approches expérimentales et empiriques ainsi que l’impact de ravageurs exotiques sur des populations d’insectes natifs incluant les parasitoïdes et sur des populations de proies natives (interaction frelon asiatique – abeilles mellifères).
- Adaptation des insectes aux environnements anthropisés : certaines actions anthropiques conduisent à la réduction des habitats naturels et à l’invasion d’espèces pouvant affecter l’agriculture et la santé humaine. Nous étudions en particulier l’adaptation à l’hôte chez les parasitoïdes utilisés en lutte biologique, l’évolution de l’adaptation du régime alimentaire des prédateurs comme des Coccinellidae et les processus de domiciliation d’insectes vecteurs de maladies.
- Modéliser la réponse des insectes aux changements globaux : dans un contexte de changements globaux, il est difficile de disposer de modèles de prédiction de la réponse individuelle et populationnelle des insectes. Pour y remédier, nous modélisons la phénologie des insectes (ex. : ravageurs de cultures) et la dispersion spatio-temporelle des populations d’insectes à partir de données expérimentales ou participatives sur les climats, paysages et pratiques culturales. Nous utilisons également la modélisation en combinaison avec des données de terrain comme un outil d’aide à la décision pour la gestion environnementale et pour l’analyse de scénarios complexes à expérimenter sur le terrain comme la combinaison de stress multiples.
- Rôle fonctionnel des insectes dans les agroécosystèmes : par leurs fonctions écologiques, les insectes déterminent l’équilibre dynamique des écosystèmes. Ces services et dis-services sont clés pour la sécurité alimentaire et la santé humaine. Nous étudions leur résilience en analysant conjointement les services de pollinisation rendu pas les insectes et les dis-services liés aux ravageurs dans les systèmes agricoles et anthropisés.
